About This Print

A smaller size (sheet size, approx. 10 x 12 in. vs. 16 x 20 in.) than many of Miyata's landscape prints, Togakushi Mountain Range was likely issued as part of a set of prints depicting a particular area of Japan, possibly Nagano Prefecture 長野県 in the Chūbu region of the main island of Honshū.

Mount Togakushi is a 1,904 meter (6,247 feet) high rocky mountain located about 20 km northwest of Nagano city. It is a sacred mountain, said to have taken its current shape when Amano-Iwato, the Cave of the Sun Goddess, fell to Earth in ancient times. Togakushi Shrine sits at its base. In 2015 a new national park, Myoko-Togakushi Renzan, was established which incorporated Togakushi.
