About This Print

While Japanese gardens are a primary source of material for the artist, the word NIWA (庭), Japanese for garden, made its first appearance in Takahashi's 1977 print titled NIWA R (Garden R) and subsequently appeared in at least 97 print titles, the last being two prints published in 1993, each titled, simply, NIWA.  Also see NIWA (Sunshine)NIWA (Movement) B2NIWA (Winter Scenery), NIWA (80-K) and NIWA (April) in this collection.

Note that this collection's print from the numbered edition differs from the artist's proof (A.P.) pictured in the artist's catalogue raisonné shown below.  Takahashi did not carry the embossing forward and simplifed the bottom oblong element on the editioned version of the print.
