About This Print

This small print titled Early Summer was produced by the Kato Woodcut Print Institute under the supervision of the Yumeji Art Museum.  It is a reproduction of an earlier work by the artist.  This collection's print came in a frame with the below label on the back of the frame.  The earliest printing of this design that I've seen was included in the book Collection of Yumeji Small Woodblock Prints 夢二小品版画集, published by Kato Print Institute in 1937, which is shown below.  At least one source titles this print 待ち人 (literally, "person who waits,") rather than 初夏 ("early summer").
